The dualtec system was invented 20 years ago and still remains effective today. The concept is to use the advantages of both a PIR and microwave sensor together to eliminate false alarms altogether due to heat flow, fireplaces, lights, etc. The idea is that automatic thermal changes which will accidentally trigger a PIR (such as a gas fireplace comming on under thermostat control) will NOT trigger a microwave sensor.
Internally to the unit, both sensors (the PIR and the microwave) must be triggered before an alarm is sent. Thus a normal PIR would alarm, while this unit would not. In good security system design, having both sensors is a great advantage.
Today with low power microwave systems this technology from 20 years ago can be put into a compact, wireless unit that enrolls easily into a 5800 equipped ademco system. Your alarm will not have false alarms with this unit - we use them all the time for PIR installations because of their dual sensor design and have never been called back due to thermal changes causing a false trigger.
The battery powered units lack the clearly visable LEDs of the wired units which indicate PIR, microwave, or both (alarm) to save power from the CR123 cell.
