This is a great solution and tool for someone including myself as a general contractor to speed up installing almost anything that needs to be level and square. A special example would be installing a door frame in a wall. There are enough laser lines to show immediately that the door frame is vertical and plumb through the doorway and it is immediately apparent if the frame is twisted within the wall. A check for trapezoid would have to be measured against one of the vertical laser lines.
I wouldn't suggest a home owner could justify the cost of this for home projects.
Two major points of clarification are that the manufacturer's description of capability is subject to gross misinterpretation. For the record, there are three (3) vertical laser lines that project at 90 degrees to each other, left, center and right. These 3 project a bit more than 45 degrees downward from each window and pass overhead more than dead overhead. The effect is that you get a continuous line across the floor to the left, up the left wall, completly over head and back down the right side similarly. Additionally there is a forward line from overhead on the wall centered between. There are no lines projected on the 4th side (back toward the operator like say.)
In addition to the previous 3 vertical lines, there is a horizontal line on the left quadrant from about 30 degrees past the left vertical line and sweeps past the center vertical. A second horizontal quadrant, does the same job sweeping past the right vertical line. [in contrast the manufacturer's description led me to think that there are "4" sets of cross line lasers of which other products that I have had (David White / CST Berger one company Gizmo for example) The conjecture led me to think there were more quadrants covered than there actually are. There is lastly a point beam laser straight down, so you can coordinate floor points with locating lights overhead for example.
The other clarification needed is the manual is hard to follow to place the beams into "detector mode" Like another reviewer, I needed clarification on the phone to make it work. The button to press for 3 seconds to actuate that mode is the DOWN beam switch. The instruction is actually there but separated from the action asked for the better part of a paragraph earlier!!!
If you can justify the price like I could it will save me many dollars of labor over it's lifetime. This is actually a replacement for another line laser which had fallen over too many times on different job sites. I am actually hesitant to put this machine on a laser pole which is a quick easy way to set up, but this is more than twice as heavy as our last line laser and I think it will not be safe on a laser pole without good attention. With a change to a high rising tripod this will serve us well.
BTW, I happened to get this from Amazon when the price was extraordinarily low (I think the dynamic pricing of the computers messed up). At the low price it was a no brainer and the upgrade to having a laser detector makes this completely usable outdoors in addition to indoors. While this cross line laser can't replace a rotary for foundation and framing work, I suspect that our 5 point laser will find itself very neglected in favor of this one for many jobs.
