It converts an old fashioned plug into one that can accommodate today's electrical devices with large plugs and transformers. I put it by my nightstand and can now plug alarm clock, lamp, and cell phone charger (with large transformer) into it easily. Everything looks tidy, no electrical sprawl. I also love the fact that it has both surge protection and ground indicator lights. And it's super will made, very substantial and sturdy. Highly recommended.
