The CO detector was installed several weeks ago, so it is really too early to know how it truly performs. I do like the small size and the low profile. It looks good compared to other CO detectors.
As recommended, the detector was installed in the hallway just outside our bedroom. The display is incredibly bright. It is easy to read in the daytime and is probably sunlight readable. However, since we leave the bedroom door open, it lights up the entire bedroom at night. Now I wish I had installed it at the far end of the hallway just to reduce the light level.
I did the test the CO detector and cross-test with a Silhouette smoke detector. The CO detector does alarm for fire and displays the word FIRE. The Silhouette smoke detector did not report for the CO test. It did not seem that the CO detector came out of test mode cleanly. It's not clear if I didn't do the test correctly or if the detector was stuck in a weird state. Later (and also after a power failure) everything seems normal.

Rechargeable Batteries Save Money, Time, and LaborThe Kidde Silhouette Low-Profile Carbon Monoxide Alarm features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery sealed inside the unit that recharges automatically via central electricity. If there is a power outage, the battery backup feature will allow continuous monitoring of carbon monoxide (CO) levels--something AC-only units can't offer--and it will recharge when electricity is restored.

The battery is designed to last the lifetime of the alarm, approximately seven years, which is 40 percent longer than standard CO alarms. Once the alarm has reached the end of its life, it will chirp every 30 seconds, letting you know it's time for a replacement.
