I am not an electrician so wasn't sure how hard it would be to redo a 3-way lighting situation that wasn't working properly. Turned out to be very easy and I am very happy with the product and the documentation.

X10 LCD 64-Event Mini Timer Review

X10 LCD 64-Event Mini Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Two years ago, at a different location, I got this as a gift. It died 30 minutes after I plugged it in. The LCD display started displaying randomly and then faded to a blank display. No display after that. I just threw the thing out.
Recently, I decided to try controlling some lights via X10. I remembered this unit and decided to try it again - mainly because it's the only X10 timer I can find. I figured (hoped) the problem I had with the first one was simply a fluke. Well it wasn't. Similar kind of failure. Not sure what the cause is. I'm at a different location now - different home. The power adaptor was pretty warm, but not too warm. My guess is the poor quality LCD's they use for the display are the culprit. Whatever the reason, in the ash can it goes. Last time I ever buy an [...] product.

If you use X10-compatible switches, module and controllers to automate your lighting and appliances throughout your home, adding this simple device to your setup will allow you to set up timed events easily. Using the 64-Event X10 Mini Timer will allow you to turn your lights on and off and dim them remotely as well as letting you easily setup timed events. The timer plugs into any AC outlet in your home and transmits digitally encoded signals over your house wiring instantly or at the times you set. You'll be able to schedule up to eight lights or appliances to turn on and off automatically. Have outside lights as well as inside lights and appliances go on and off at preset times so you walk into a dark home at night. Or give your home a lived-in look while you are away using a security mode that turns lights on and off at random times within a certain time frame. You can even wake up in the morning to light and sound. X10 switches or plug-in modules are required if you wish to control lights and appliances, and are sold separately. This product requires two AA batteries, sold separately.

Sylvania SA135 10 Amp Table-Top Timer with Motion Sensor and Alarm Review

Sylvania SA135 10 Amp Table-Top Timer with Motion Sensor and Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I find this device an excellent bedside alarm - I prefer to wake to lights and radio rather than an alarm. Having +/- keys it is easy to set alarm times and having two independent programs allow you to preset weekends, say, for a different time. The Daylight Saving Time switch is handy, though it has to be set manually on those two days of the year.
The manual On/Off by pressing the cover is very neat. This function has a minor quirk - it does not react to a quick press or tap (the same for the underlying On/Off switch)- you have to hold it down for a fraction of a second to activate the outlet On/Off. Once you realize this it is not an issue.
The unit is quite small and a very nice design. Buttons are well laid out, though reading the manual is necessary to set it up first time. I would prefer the timed outlet plug socket be placed at the end of the power cord (using a three wire cord) rather than built in to the back of the unit requiring a second cord coming to the unit. The battery backup is simple to install being in a little drawer on the side of the unit. It has a lot of functionality for the price, including the motion detection which works well.

The Sylvania SA135 5-in-1 Tabletop Timer with Motion Sensor and Alarm offers options for manual, timed, or motion-sensor control of lamps and other appliances. With a large digital display, decorative protective cover, and easy programming, the SA135 also includes an untimed outlet and an optional alarm function.
Designed for VersatilityThe SA135 lets you program up to two different times to turn on/off a lamp, radio, alarm, or other appliance. For manual control, simply press the on/off button located in the center of the control panel.
For further convenience, a large display features a digital clock. Additionally, an untimed outlet on the side of the SA135 allows you to plug in a second device that won't be controlled by the timer.
Motion Sensor for Convenience and SecurityThe motion sensor on the SA135 Table-Top Timer can turn on a lamp or an alarm when someone enters the room. A cord that extends up to six feet allows you to aim the timer in the direction where movement occurs. Program the SA135 Table-Top Timer to turn on a light when it senses motion, or for added security, program the timer to sound an alarm to alert you to intruders.
Easy to ProgramA large digital display makes it easy to read and program the SA135 Table-Top Timer, which also features volume control, a button for daylight saving, and programming options. In the event of a power failure, the battery backup system keeps your settings active, so you won't have to reprogram. Even when daylight saving comes around, this timer does not need to be reprogrammed. Simply slide the DST button and all settings adjust by one hour.
Protective Cover Complements Any DecorThe SA135's smooth decorative cover complements any decor and protects your personal settings from accidental adjustments. Also, you can quickly and easily depress the cover to temporarily override a preprogrammed setting.
Warranty InformationThe Sylvania SA135 Table-Top Timer is backed by a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

This was bought to replace an older unit of the same make, but this timer's alarm is so timid that you have to be almost next to it to hear it go off. The older unit was much louder and easier to hear. Unless you have perfect hearing or live in a near silent house, find another model or brand.

Timex Easy-to-Set Electronic Timer Review

Timex Easy-to-Set Electronic Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought five of these units about six months ago and used each as a timer to prevent my cordless phones from overcharging. I have five Panasonic cordless phones stationed throughout the house and they really only need to charge about 3 hours per day, rather than 24 hours per day.
Six months later, not one -- not one -- of them is still working. They all died within a few months of use.
This is junk. Don't buy it.

No issues in 1 year of use, I installed and I'm no electrician. Note this requires a neutral wire to work correctly, which may not be available in older houses.
