First Alert CO600 Plug In Carbon Monoxide Alarm Review

First Alert CO600 Plug In Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this for my Mom, who has a very low tolerance for any type of electronics that has more than one button. This fits the bill perfectly -- just plug it in, and it works. Other models have more advanced features, such as a digitial display or a batter backup, but if you're looking for simplicity and a low cost, this is a great choice.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.
The First Alert CO600 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. UL listed.--Bree Norlander

I purchased the "Your Minder Personal Alarm Clock" because you can record up to 6 of your own alarm messages. I thought this would be great for my aging mother that needed reminders to take medications. The voice recording works well, but there is no way to eliminate the other messaging that comes out at 4 times the volume of your recorded message which is very irritating. There is no volume control. I put tape over the speakers to reduce the volume but then my recorded voice could not be heard. The pre-recorded messages are so loud you can hear the clock casing rattle. It is not possible to softly wake up with this siren of a voice going off.

I purchased this with my Skylink System about 7 months ago and it has worked without any problem so far. It is handy that you can arm, disarm and activate panic alarm with a push of the button. Although, I would recommend that you do not disarm the system until you have entered the house. That way if you hear the 15 second count down you know that no one is in your house (most likely).

Control Products FA-I-CCA Intermediate FreezeAlarm Review

Control Products FA-I-CCA Intermediate FreezeAlarm
Average Reviews:

I purchased this unit because we live in the Northeast where it can get pretty cold. When we travel during the winter months, I like to have the security of knowing that the heating system in our home is working properly and we are not coming home to a disaster caused by frozen pipes. The unit is so simple to set up and maintain that you will probably not even read the well written instruction manual that the unit comes with. I just plugged in the power supply, installed a 9 volt battery and plugged the unit into an available phone wall jack. I then called the unit using my cell phone and completed the programming in less than 5 minutes. The intuitive voice menu guides you through the installation in an extremely clear manner. It works well with our existing answering machine. Well worth the price of $180 that I paid.

Reliance Controls THP201 Automatic Phone Out Alarm with 3 Functions Review

Reliance Controls THP201 Automatic Phone Out Alarm with 3 Functions
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I placed the 3-function unit in an uninhabited "second home" that was for sale.
Having always been nervous that the boiler would stop working, and that the house would "freeze", this seemed like a wise investment.
The first time it called me it claimed the power was off ("beep beep").
Upon investigation (a short drive) power was indeed off - for whole block.
The second time it called me, it claimed there was a water problem ("beep beep beep").
I ran over only to find that the boiler's B&G circulator pump had failed catastrophically. Water was running out of the point where the pump's motor joins with the pump (the shaft seal). Because I was alerted and able to get to house quickly, the cleanup required only a mop and bucket.
I know people who are afraid to leave their homes in the winter "in case something happens". This machine should provide them with much comfort.
Several issues:
(1)The THP201 attaches to your analog phone line and calls out (to up to three pre-programmed numbers) when it detects a problem. If you have a standard "old fashioned" POTS line (i.e., copper loop powered by the Telco's central office) this is fine. These phone lines work w/o power in your house.
If you have phone service via a cable modem, the THP201 will be less effective. If power fails, so too will your cable modem. The THP201 will not get a dial tone when it goes off-hook.
(2)The unit comes with only one water sensor. This requires that you give a lot of thought as to where water is likely to collect in case of a problem.
It would be better if the THP201 accepted two or three water sensors (sold as options). Then one sensor could be placed near the laundry room, one near the hot water heater and one, perhaps, by the boiler.
(3) The unit has no alphanumeric display. Thus there is no easy way to verify that the phone number you entered is correct without testing the device.
I would recommend that you do just that. It is easy to get a digit wrong (fail to press a key fully) and enter the wrong phone number. You can test it either by using the test button, or by unplugging unit's power cord (to simulate power outage) or by placing a wet sponge against the water detector.
Leave the instructions with the unit; at some time in the future you will need to refer to them. The set-up interface is not obvious.

For years I had the BRK model 86RAC smoke detectors that were always churping, especially at night. I finally replaced them with the BRK 7020B. I needed a water monitoring device for a remote location that did not have a land line. I mated this with the Cobra Phonelynx and it works like a charm. Very impressed with the simplicity of this device. I am using google voice to enable this phone to dial several people at once, as it can only dial one number if it detects water. It will call numerous times until the alarm is acknowledged by pressing "#1" - just answering the call will not reset the alarm - which is a good thing.

Kidde 0919-9999/ RF-SM-DC Battery-Operated Smoke Alarm, Wirelessly Interconnectable Review

Kidde 0919-9999/ RF-SM-DC Battery-Operated Smoke Alarm, Wirelessly Interconnectable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love the idea of this system, and as soon as I found it, I had to order a set for my home and my grandmother's home. They work as advertised. One goes off, and they all go off. Push the mute button on one, and they all silence for a bit.
I feel much safer with them in the house, but the system has one flaw. That is that there are only have 2 models available. One is a wired model that interconnects a wired and interconnected system to the battery powered wireless system, and the other is a battery powered wireless system. Both utilize ionization sensors. There is no battery powered photoelectric option, or better yet, a dual sensor version.
Here is a quote from Amazon's own product description; """This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.""" So Kidde knows that you should have both types, and even "strongly recommends" it, but then does not give an option to wirelessly connect both types.
There is also no wireless CO2 or combustible gas sensor. I suppose you could find wired interconnected versions of those detectors, but that is hardly an easy solution... I'll say it once more though to emphasize; I feel much safer with this interconnected system than with my previous non-interconnected system!!!I just wish Kidde would give a little more variety to this otherwise great system.
I have had the system installed for a little over a year now. There have been no false alarms, but they never fail to all go off when one is tested or detects smoke. Batteries lasted about a year. They use 3 AAA batteries each, which they do come with.

The Kidde 0919-9999 Battery-Operated Wireless Smoke Alarm allows for the easy installation of an interconnected smoke alarm system without the high cost and hassle of rewiring your home. The alarms are wirelessly linked so that when one alarm is triggered, all alarms will sound. This alarm can also be placed in a detached workshop or shed and linked into the home's interconnected system.
Experts recommend interconnected alarms, because when one sounds, they all sound, providing an early warning against fire by dramatically increasing your ability to hear an alarm anywhere in your home, regardless of where the fire starts. Newer homes are required by code to have interconnected alarms. Wireless technology now enables any home to have an interconnected system.
This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

First Alert SA305CN Smoke Alarm with Long Life Lithium Battery Review

First Alert SA305CN Smoke Alarm with Long Life Lithium Battery
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought 2 of these alarms to replace a couple other alarms in my home as they were about 15 yrs. old & thought it might be wise to "update". The long-life lithium batteries was a real selling pont to me. The one thing that concerns me about these new detectors is that aren't nearly as sensitive as my old detectors were. My wife ocassionally burns things while cooking, or gets the oven too hot. My old detectors would "go off" when this happened. These new ones have not signalled when this happens but the old ones still do. I tested the new ones by heating an iron skillet on the stove with a bit of grease in it. LOTS of smoke bellowed out, the old detectors sounded immediately but it took a couple minutes longer and a lot more smoke for the new ones to finally signal. Hope this isn't over-reaction on my behalf but I sort of like the sensitivity level of the older detectors compared to the new ones.

Honeywell RWD41 Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm Review

Honeywell RWD41 Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This alarm is ridiculously easy to install. It took maybe 15 minutes (tops) to put it under a bathroom sink, including attaching the cable to the drainpipe. It may take longer to snake the cable behind a washing machine, but it's still really easy.
The cable is very sensitive, and the alarm sounds within a couple of seconds of the cable getting wet. When you dry the cable, it takes less than a second for the alarm to go silent. The alarm is LOUD - loud enough to wake you up.
Like a smoke detector, this alarm just sits there silently, doing its thing, and you never know it's working until ... well, until it works. You should probably test it once a year by wrapping a wet cloth around the cable or dunking it in a cup of water.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Honeywell RWD41 Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm

Honeywell's RWD41 water defense water-sensing alarm offers superior protection against leaks and water damage near potential trouble spots close to plumbing around the home or office. Place it in hard-to-see areas around toilet bases; under sinks; behind dishwashers, refrigerators and laundry machines; and by water heaters and sump pumps.
FeaturesThe water-sensing cable detects dampness along its entire 4-foot length and can be easily tucked away near appliances or hidden under baseboards around carpet. A separate RWD41-compatible 8-foot extension cable (the RWD80) is available for an even more comprehensive range. The base unit (powered by a 9-volt battery, not included) can be mounted on a wall or another flat surface and comes with a 6-foot leader cable. Installation is a cinch thanks to plug-and-play features built into the system: Just add batteries, plug in the leader cable and the water-sensing cable, and mount the base unit with two-sided tape (which the securing clips also employ to hold the water-sensing cable in place). An 80-decible alert sounds when water is detected, permitting for early discovery and intervention of leaks, and can be turned off by wiping the sensor cable with a dry cloth.
Leak Detection and ProtectionWater damage is the second-leading cause of home insurance claims nationwide, and 80 percent of all home water claims are caused by plumbing and major appliances. A surprisingly large amount of water can escape from the smallest of cracks--a 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day. Insurance companies recommend the installation of water-detection systems like the RWD41 as the best protection against the potentially expensive and stressful damage caused by leaks.
About HoneywellHoneywell is a Fortune 100 company that can trace its roots back to 1885, when inventor Albert Butz patented the furnace regulator and alarm. Today, Honeywell continues to innovate and manufacture technologies that address challenges linked to global macrotrends such as safety, security, and energy.

BRK Brands HD6135FB Hardwire Heat Alarm with Battery Backup Review

BRK Brands HD6135FB Hardwire Heat Alarm with Battery Backup
Average Reviews:

The HD6135 Heat Alarm by BRK is easy to install. If you already have a hardwired BRK alarm it just plugs right in. If you do not then the included plug simply connects to your power and then plugs into the alarm.
The IR remote control silence/test feature is cool in that you can use your TV's remote control to test the alarm. We have not had a problem with remotes inadvertantly setting off the alarm, but it has been installed in the furnace room away from TVs.
We have had no false alarms, and, thankfully, no real alarms either.
I have copied the specs from the BRK website:
? 135F Fixed temperature and Rate-of-Rise
? Thermistor heat sensor
? 9V Battery Backup
? IR Remote Control Silence/Test uses most remote controls to temporarily quiet unwanted alarms and test alarm functions
? Latching alarm indicator - remembers which unit initiated an alarm
? Two silence features - can silence the low-battery chirp for up to eight hours or temporarily silence an unwanted nuisance alarm

First Alert FCD3 Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Alarm Review

First Alert FCD3 Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product should be a necessity in everyone's home. It is very basic; it doesn't have a parts-per-million LCD display. So, there is no real ability to tell if you're air quality is marginal or not. However, it will save your life with it's standard functions. There are 3 LED lights: battery, service, and alarm.
My 6 month experience with this has been very good. The battery light blinks intermittently to tell you it needs changing. It does start squeaking when it becomes nearly out of energy. The battery changing experience is quite unique. The mega-plastic detents on the back panel make it very difficult to open and close (good/bad - you make up your mind). And there is a little plastic spring bar - allowing you to only replace the back cover when a battery is inserted - sort of an ingenious way of making sure there is a battery present in the unit(good/bad). The back plate is wall mountable too.
The Cyclops lights are actually quite bright - so it might bother you if you're a light sleeper or plan to put it in a child's bedroom. Overall, though the price is exceptional - I got mine at nearly double the Amazon price. I'd give it 4 stars had it not been for the bargain basement price and value.

These are easy to install (So are the rest though) and promise a battery free lifetime. I have 10 of these in my house and have had to replace all but 1 - and they were just installed < 4years ago.
