Mighty Mule FM231 Wireless Driveway Alarm Review

Mighty Mule FM231 Wireless Driveway Alarm

I ordered the Mighty Mule Wireless Driveway Alarm model 231 because I have had fairly bad results with IR motion detector based alarms. The MM Alarm arrived on time and in very good condition. Right away after opening the box, I noticed there was a problem. The PVC pipe for mounting the transmitter has been cut on an angle to allow easier driving into the ground like a stake. Unfortunately, the wire to the detector also has to be run up that PVC to the transmitter, so you will surely damage the wire while driving the stake if your ground is not extremely soft. My solution was to drill a hole in the stake about about 10 inches up so that the stake can be driven and then the wire fed into the hole and up the tube to the transmitter. This worked and I was able to install the sensor and transmitter with no other issues. Next, I found that the advertised 400' range is very suspect. I placed the transmitter a little over 325 feet from my house and the receiver would not pick up the signal from inside the house. I had to take it outside where it worked well. I moved the transmitter to about 150' from my house and it works excellent. I would say that this alarm is not satisfactory at 400' and MM should advertise it for 250' or less to be completely truthful. If you want a longer distance model, you'll need to buy a different product. It would also help if the volume could be doubled. It seems that none of these alarms include satisfactory volume for those of us who are slightly hearing impaired.

Toshiba Satellite A200 / A205 175-Watt Power Inverter Car Adapter Review

I use this for my laptop. It works great except it will not shut off when your car battery gets low...it just drains it. Had to get my car jumped the first time I used it. So, I've learned not to keep it plugged in all day...plug it in when the battery gets low, give it some time to charge (if it takes to long, I'll start up my car for 15 minutes or so) and then unplug it again. Otherwise, great product and exactly what I needed.

First Alert CO600 Plug In Carbon Monoxide Alarm Review

First Alert CO600 Plug In Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Average Reviews:

I purchased this for my Mom, who has a very low tolerance for any type of electronics that has more than one button. This fits the bill perfectly -- just plug it in, and it works. Other models have more advanced features, such as a digitial display or a batter backup, but if you're looking for simplicity and a low cost, this is a great choice.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.
The First Alert CO600 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. UL listed.--Bree Norlander

PoolGuard In-Ground Swimming Pool Alarm Review

PoolGuard In-Ground Swimming Pool Alarm
Average Reviews:

We have had it in place for about two months with a single false alarm due to very strong winds. I have forgot to turn the unit off before cleaning the pool and the first strong stroke of my broom set it off but the automatic pool sweep does not seem to effect it.
The outside and inside alarms are very loud. Installing the unit requires drilling in to the pool deck with a masonry drill. I would recommend this product.

Universal Security Instruments USI-1103 120-Volt AC/DC Wired-In Ionization Smoke and Fire Alarm with Silence Feature and Lithium Battery Back-Up Review

Universal Security Instruments USI-1103 120-Volt AC/DC Wired-In Ionization Smoke and Fire Alarm with Silence Feature and Lithium Battery Back-Up

We recently needed to replace our smoke detectors -- did you know you need to replace them after a certain period as well as the batteries? They are all wired into the house so any one sets them all off, and they all have battery backup. One thing I've always hated every year is replacing the 9 volt battery. It wouldn't be such a big deal to remember and do it, but the alarms always started the incessant chirping when the battery is removed (low battery backup indicator) even though the power wiring was still strong. Even that wouldn't be so bad if the chirping would stop when a fresh battery was put in. However they always continued chirping for a *very* long time, sometimes due to improper seating of the battery I guess. But since they'd go for a long time, I'd never know if they were going to stop when the chirp circuit slowly charged up fully or if there was a battery insertion problem! Multiply that by 7 smoke alarms, and the uncanny way the chirps sound like they are coming from different room alarms, and it was a dreaded annual ritual.
So when I started to look for a new smoke detector and came across a smoke detector that said I wouldn't need to replace the battery for 10 years -- I was sold. I had to hunt though to find one that advertised the wired-in alarm and the promise of 10 years of chirp-free life. I found this detector on Amazon and ordered 7. I discovered when they arrived, the 10-years is due to a new lithium 9-volt battery that is apparently new to the market. The detector itself seems very similar to all the other detectors and just included this new battery. Still, that was fine and the replacement worked well (actually was a much nicer twist and secure insert than my old alarms) with the included battery inserted into the battery compartment. Now the reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because 2 of the 7 alarms started the dreaded chirping within a few weeks. One was immediate and I thought about sending it back, but decided to just look for a replacement battery. The other one started a few weeks after installation.
I actually figured I'd have to order these new batteries online because I didn't see them at Lowe's. I decided to pick up a couple of regular 9 volt batteries in the meantime so the alarms would be working while I did so. However, a nice surprise was finding Energizer Advanced Lithium batteries at the local Wegman's grocery store with the same 10-year backup battery for smoke detectors label! They were $6.99 each. I just put them in the 2 alarms and so far (fingers crossed) it's chirp-free silence! I thought I'd write this review for others in a similar situation. If you need to replace your alarms (whether in-wired or not), or even if you don't, you can just pick up these new 9-volt lithium batteries as your alarm battery and don't have to hunt for unique alarm that advertises the 10-year promise. This alarm here is fine, but the special part is the 9-v battery. And "apparently" the batteries included with the alarm weren't that good if 2 of 7 failed in a few weeks. The included batteries don't indicate a particular brand other than, ironically, "ultralife". Maybe as many products, the batteries are inferior to what you can get off the shelf from a brand name, but given the "10-year" expectation -- that's due to the battery life -- you'd expect the batteries to be super high quality.
So maybe you can get just as good an alarm at a better price by ordering your alarm and these new batteries separately.

I bought this item from some where else. they said that it dials all three numbers at the same time which is not true, at least in my case. It just dial one number at a time. Its not that sensitive. The sensor is inside the device and is not that exposed so when you are at the side of this device its not gona alarm or recognize you. Its Ok product.
